Guided Nature Hikes

Available October - May | 2nd – 12th Grade

The Museum offers free nature hikes for school-age children. Hikes are available in multiple locations throughout the county and are guided by Canyoneers, volunteer naturalists trained by Museum staff and scientists. This free program is made possible by generous funding from Subaru of America and the Canyoneers.

Group size: 32 students per 60 minute hike (15 student minimum).
Availability: Monday – Friday at 10 AM and/or 11:15 AM; Limited to one reservation per week.
Chaperones: We require a 1:8 chaperone to student ratio.

San Dieguito River Park (Crest Canyon Trail), Solana Beach/Rancho Santa Fe: year-round
Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve (Lopez Canyon), Mira Mesa: year-round


Kate O. Sessions Memorial Park, Pacific Beach: spring
San Clemente Canyon East, University City/Clairemont: year-round
Florida Canyon, Balboa Park: spring


Old Mission Dam, Mission Trails Regional Park, Santee: year-round
Kumeyaay Lake Loop, Mission Trails Regional Park, Santee: year-round


Rice Canyon, Chula Vista: year–round
